When it gets cold outside, a cup of hot chocolate is just right. With donkey milk, it gets a particularly mild, slightly sweet character. Because donkey milk contains less fat than whole milk, a piece of good chocolate ensures creaminess.
Ingredients for 1 cup
- 250 ml donkey milk (thawed)
- 25 g dark or milk chocolate, finely chopped
- 1 tsp baking cocoa
- to taste 1 tsp sugar or honey
- optional: 1 tbsp cream for more creaminess
- 1 pinch of salt
Preparation
- Prepare: Finely chop the chocolate. Shake the donkey milk well.
- Heat gently: Heat the donkey milk in a small pot over low heat while stirring until it is nice and warm (about 60 °C). Do not let it boil – this preserves the delicate milk note.
- Stir in the chocolate: Remove the pot from the stove, add the chocolate and cocoa, and stir until smooth with a whisk.
- Taste: Finish with salt, sugar or honey to taste, and cream.
- Serve: Pour into a preheated cup and enjoy immediately.
Variations
- Wintery: a pinch of cinnamon and a hint of cardamom.
- Fruity: add some orange zest to the warm milk.
- White chocolate: instead of dark chocolate, use 30 g white chocolate and a pinch of vanilla.
- With powder: dissolve 25 g donkey milk powder in 225 ml warm water and continue as above.
Tips
- Since donkey milk naturally tastes slightly sweet, you often need less sugar than usual.
- A milk frother creates a light and airy top – the foam tends to fall more easily due to the low fat content.
