Practice & everyday life

How our customers drink their donkey milk.

Real customer

Pure

A glass, lightly chilled. For many, a direct way to get to know the taste.

To start: try a bottle straight after thawing.

In the morning ritual

In muesli or a smoothie – stirred in cool.

Tip: stir it in just before enjoying.

With a small supply

With a supply of 1 litre or more, you simply thaw one bottle each day – and always have fresh milk in the fridge.

With the Vitalprogramm, your delivery arrives automatically every 4 weeks.

Real pictures from the partner farm

From the milk churn to the bottle

On the partner farm, the milk is filtered after milking, bottled by hand, sealed and frozen. These pictures were taken during a bottling session.

    Bottling

From the measuring jug, it is poured into the bottles by hand – bottle by bottle.

    Sealing

Each bottle is sealed by hand. Batch and best-before date are on the label.

    Freezing

The sealed bottles go into the freezer and are frozen.

The milk is then tested in a laboratory in Germany and sent to you frozen.

Ten million times closer.

Start the journey or drag the slider: from the glass to a single drop, all the way to lysozyme and lactoferrin – two proteins that occur naturally in donkey milk.

    Why so rare

Usually half a litre to a litre a day – alongside the foal.

Donkey milk is not a mass-market milk. A jenny usually gives half a litre to a litre a day, at most around 2 litres – in addition to what her foal drinks. Our partners milk by hand, on small farms in Europe.

That's why every bottle is the result of many steps done by hand – and that's why it costs more than milk from the supermarket.

    Where our donkeys live

In the herd, on large pastures.

The jennies live in stable herds on the pastures of their farms. For milking, some of them come into the stable for a short time – calmly and by hand. We know every partner farm personally and look at the processes on site.

    Donkeys on a large pasture

    Large pastures

The jennies live in their herds on open land – with space to move and to rest.

A herd of donkeys in the evening light

    In the herd

Donkeys are social animals. On our partner farms they stay together in their herds – from foal to older jenny.

    Jenny with foal

    Mother & foal

Some jennies like to retreat into the bushes with their foals. Then the keepers come to them and milk directly on the pasture.

A jenny only gives her milk when she is calm. That's why our partners take their time when milking.

    What's inside

Composed differently from the milk you know.

Donkey milk has its own profile: plenty of milk sugar, little fat and naturally occurring proteins such as lysozyme and lactoferrin.

    • Milk sugar

Around 6–7 g per 100 ml. It gives the mild, slightly sweet taste.

    • Little fat

Usually less than 1 g per 100 ml – donkey milk tastes light and fresh.

    • Lysozyme

An enzyme that occurs naturally in donkey milk.

    • Lactoferrin

An iron-binding milk protein, also naturally present.

      The people behind it

      Who we are

We are Brian and Justin Netuschil – two brothers from Lüdinghausen in the Münsterland region. DON DONKEY'S® exists because we believe that such a special natural product should find its way to people who appreciate it.

We know each of our partner farms personally, talk to the keepers and are here for you ourselves if you have any questions – via WhatsApp, email or phone.

      Karl-Heinz, long-standing DON DONKEY'S customer

      Customer story

Part of his everyday life for over three years

When Karl-Heinz came across DON DONKEY'S® more than three years ago, donkey milk was something completely new to him. Out of curiosity, he wanted to try it himself.

That first encounter became a firm habit: Karl-Heinz has been ordering from us regularly for more than three years. Stories like this mean a lot to us – because behind every order is a person with their own preferences and rituals.

      Frequently asked questions

      Good to know.

How is the donkey milk delivered?

Frozen in insulated packaging with GO! Express. We ship on Mondays and Wednesdays so that the milk is not in transit over the weekend. Shipping to Germany is free from an order value of €99, to Austria from €139 – so from just 1 litre of donkey milk, also in the Vitalprogramm. Below that, it costs €14.90 (Germany) or €29.90 (Austria). We deliver to Switzerland free of charge from €259 (from 2 litres), below that for €69.90.

How long does the milk keep?

Frozen until the date printed on each bottle. After thawing, please keep refrigerated, use within 3 days and do not refreeze.

How do I thaw it properly?

Ideally slowly in the fridge, for example overnight. Please do not thaw in the microwave. Shake briefly before opening. Please follow the instructions on the label.

      Is the milk pasteurised?

No. Our donkey milk is raw milk and is not pasteurised, but frozen directly after milking. Please follow the instructions on the label.

100 ml or 200 ml bottles – which is better?

There is no difference in content. 100 ml bottles are practical if you want to thaw small amounts one after the other. 200 ml bottles are suitable if you use more at once.

Why is donkey milk so expensive?

A jenny usually gives only half a litre to a litre of milk a day, at most around 2 litres – in addition to what her foal drinks. Add to that hand-milking on small farms, shock-freezing, laboratory testing and frozen shipping. From 1 litre, the price per litre goes down and shipping is free.

Donkey milk and children – what should I know?

Donkey milk is not intended for infants. Whether and how children drink donkey milk is something to discuss beforehand with your paediatrician – the same applies during pregnancy and in case of illness. Please follow the instructions on the label.

I have a milk allergy – what should I consider?

Donkey milk is milk and contains milk protein and lactose. If you have a known milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance, please check with your doctor beforehand whether you can try it.
