Thawing donkey milk properly.
Fresh donkey milk is delivered deep-frozen by DON DONKEY'S®. How do you thaw it properly without unnecessarily breaking the cold chain?
Here you will find easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, important hygiene tips and answers to the most common questions.
Three steps. One simple method.
This is how you prepare deep-frozen donkey milk for further use in a controlled manner.
Check the bottle
Before thawing, check the seal, the packaging and the product labeling. In case of damage or a questionable cold chain, you should first clarify whether it is safe to use.
Thaw in the refrigerator
Place the closed bottle upright in a clean bowl in the refrigerator. The thawing time depends on several factors, including the bottle size.
Use while refrigerated
After thawing, carefully swirl the bottle and continue to use the milk in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Temperature makes the difference.
While thawing, the milk should remain cooled throughout the process as much as possible.
Why should donkey milk be thawed in the refrigerator?
Milk is an easily perishable food. As temperatures rise, existing microorganisms can multiply.
Thawing in the refrigerator makes it easier to control the temperature than at room temperature.
This is particularly important with raw milk: Freezing does not replace pasteurization and does not make milk germ-free.
Four common thawing mistakes.
- Thawing for extended periods on the kitchen counter.
- Direct sunlight or heat from a radiator.
- Ignoring damaged or leaking packaging.
- Trying to compensate for a broken cold chain by refreezing.
How long does thawed donkey milk last?
This depends on production, packaging, temperature, the cold chain and whether the container has been opened.
The most important factors are the product-specific storage and shelf-life information on your bottle.
Clean handling. Continuous refrigeration.
Use clean glasses, reseal the bottle after taking out a serving, and immediately return it to the refrigerator.
Smell and appearance alone are not enough to assess the microbiological safety of raw milk.
Important note: As fresh DON DONKEY'S® donkey milk is not pasteurized according to the product description, raw milk should be heated sufficiently before consumption. Especially at-risk groups should not drink unheated raw milk.
Good to know.
The most common questions about thawing frozen donkey milk.
How long does it take to thaw donkey milk?
The duration depends on the bottle size, the initial temperature and the refrigerator temperature. Allow sufficient time, possibly overnight.
Can I thaw donkey milk at room temperature?
This is not recommended. The temperature remains easier to control in the refrigerator.
Can I use warm water to thaw it?
We recommend thawing in the refrigerator instead, as warm water can heat the outer layers of the milk more quickly.
Can I refreeze thawed donkey milk?
Refreezing does not eliminate possible microbiological risks. Follow the product-specific manufacturer's instructions.
Is frozen donkey milk germ-free?
No. Freezing does not automatically make raw milk germ-free.
Can I drink the milk immediately after thawing?
Unpasteurized raw milk should be heated sufficiently before consumption.
