You can use donkey milk in two ways: as food – liquid, powdered, or as cheese – and in skincare as an ingredient in cosmetic products. Which form is right for you depends on how often you use it, how much space you have in the freezer, and whether you want to drink it, cook with it, or use it for skincare. This overview shows you the options.
Donkey milk as food: the three forms compared
| Form | Storage | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Liquid donkey milk | frozen at −18 °C, thaw in the refrigerator (2–7 °C) | enjoying plain, coffee, tea, desserts |
| Donkey milk powder | dry, follow instructions on the label | small portions, on the go, little space in the freezer |
| Donkey cheese | according to the label | cheese platter, special occasions, for tasting |
Liquid donkey milk: plain and in the kitchen
The liquid donkey milk comes to you frozen. You thaw it slowly in the refrigerator and can then use it as described on the label. Many enjoy it plain, slightly chilled, to experience the taste. It is usually described as mild and slightly sweet.
In the kitchen, donkey milk is perfect wherever a delicate milky note is needed: in coffee, tea, porridge, or desserts. Since it contains less fat than whole milk, it has a lighter mouthfeel. You can find practical ideas in our recipes with donkey milk for everyday life.
Donkey milk powder: flexible portioning
The freeze-dried donkey milk powder is a practical alternative if you only want to use donkey milk occasionally or in small quantities. The mixing ratio is simple:
- Weigh out 10 g of powder.
- Add 90 ml of water.
- Stir thoroughly until the powder has completely dissolved. This makes approximately 100 ml.
You can also stir the powder directly into recipes, such as smoothies or batter. Further tips can be found in the post How to prepare donkey milk powder correctly.
Donkey cheese: a rare delicacy
About 25 liters of donkey milk are needed for 1 kg of donkey cheese. Accordingly, it is rare. Donkey cheese is particularly suitable for cheese platters and special occasions. Serve it in thin slices, for example with bread, nuts, or fruit. You can find the ingredients and allergens on the label. Anyone who wants to experience donkey milk and donkey cheese together can find a combination to try in the gourmet sampler set.
Donkey milk in skincare
Donkey milk is also used as an ingredient in cosmetic products. In creams, lotions, and shampoos, it is all about care: The products moisturize, make the skin supple, and leave a pleasant skin feel. In our donkey milk cosmetics, you will find, for example, a body milk, a face cream, and a 3-in-1 product for hair and body. You can read more about this in the post Donkey milk in skincare.
Cosmetic products are intended for external use. In contrast, food-grade donkey milk is intended for consumption. Please use each product as described on the label.
