From tradition to modern formulations

According to tradition, Cleopatra bathed in donkey milk. It cannot be said with certainty whether this is historically accurate. However, history shows that donkey milk has long been associated with beauty care. Today's cosmetic products have little in common with a milk bath. They are manufactured according to fixed formulations, combine donkey milk with other ingredients and are subject to the rules of the EU Cosmetics Regulation.

What cosmetics can do – and what they cannot

Cosmetic products are designed to cleanse and care for the skin and hair and improve their appearance. Good care can moisturise, make the skin supple and ensure a pleasant skin feel. The skin then looks better cared for.

What cosmetics are not: a remedy for the treatment of skin diseases. If your skin is permanently irritated, itchy or changing, a dermatologist is the right person to consult. Promises such as "wrinkles disappear" are also not something a cream can seriously achieve.

How to choose the right product

  1. Clarify your needs: Are you looking for care for the face, for the body or for hair and body at the same time?
  2. Choose a texture: Light lotions usually absorb faster. Rich creams feel pleasant on dry areas.
  3. Read the ingredients: The INCI list lists all ingredients. Check if it contains anything you would like to avoid, such as certain fragrances.
  4. Start small: First test a new product on a small area of skin, for example in the crook of your arm.
  5. Use regularly: Care develops its pleasant skin feel especially when it becomes part of your routine.

Do not confuse cosmetics and food

We offer donkey milk to drink and as an ingredient in cosmetics. Both are separate product worlds. Donkey milk to drink is a food that you can enjoy pure or in recipes. For the skin, you use products that are manufactured and labelled as cosmetics. If you would like to know how donkey milk to drink tastes, read our article What does donkey milk taste like?. More on the care context can be found under Donkey milk in skin care.

A look at the labelling

Cosmetic products in the EU must carry certain information on the packaging. This includes, among other things, the list of ingredients, the net quantity, information on shelf life and, if applicable, special precautionary information. This information helps you compare products and choose consciously.

  • Ingredients: in the INCI list, ordered by quantity
  • Shelf life: Best before date or symbol with an open jar
  • Application: Instructions for use and possible warnings

If you are unsure about a product, read the information carefully before using it for the first time. If you have questions about individual products, you can also contact us directly.

Another tip: It is better to buy new products one after another than all at once. This way you can get to know each product properly and quickly notice which texture and fragrance you like. Keep cosmetics well closed and not in direct sunlight so that they remain pleasant to use until the end.
