If you enjoy donkey milk regularly, good organization is essential: When will the delivery arrive, how should I store it, how much should I thaw at once – and when is the powder the better choice? This second part of our everyday series answers exactly these practical questions.
Delivery: frozen to your front door
DON DONKEY'S donkey milk is hand-milked on European farms, laboratory-tested in Germany, and delivered frozen. To ensure the goods arrive in good condition, we ship on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Plan to have someone available to receive the shipment on the delivery day. Place the bottles directly in the freezer after unpacking.
Proper storage: freezer instead of refrigerator
Frozen donkey milk should be stored in the freezer at −18 °C. Only move it to the refrigerator when you are ready to use it. Here are a few tips for organization:
- Store older bottles at the front and newer ones at the back – this way you use them in the correct order.
- Keep track of how many bottles you have left. This makes the next order easier.
- Check the shelf-life information on the label.
Stress-free thawing
Thawing takes some time. If you drink donkey milk regularly, it is best to make this step a regular part of your weekly routine.
- Take a bottle out of the freezer well in advance.
- Place it in the refrigerator and let it thaw slowly at 2–7 °C.
- Follow the instructions on the label regarding preparation and consumption after thawing.
Only thaw as much as you can consume within the specified time according to the label. This is explained in detail in the instructions for thawing and storage.
When donkey milk powder is more convenient
Frozen milk is not always practical for everyday life. For on the go, travel, or small quantities, many people choose donkey milk powder. It is freeze-dried and does not require a freezer.
| Situation | Suitable option |
|---|---|
| Daily glass at home | Frozen donkey milk |
| Cooking and baking in larger quantities | Frozen donkey milk |
| Travel, office, on the go | Donkey milk powder |
| Individual portions for smoothies | Donkey milk powder |
To mix, combine 10 g of powder with 90 ml of water. This yields approximately 100 ml. You can find all the steps in the instructions for donkey milk powder.
Plan your routine with the Vital Program
If you do not want to remember to order every time, you can use the Vital Program. This is our monthly subscription, with which donkey milk is delivered regularly. This way, the delivery fits your rhythm, and you can plan the freezer space in advance. The process and terms are available on the page.
Why donkey milk is not available in unlimited quantities
A donkey gives approximately 1–2 liters of milk per day – and that is in addition to providing for her foal. It is hand-milked or collected in small quantities. Donkey milk is therefore rare and more expensive than other milk. Careful planning is therefore worthwhile. You can read more about the background in the post Why donkey milk is so rare.

Incorporate donkey milk into your weekly routine
A fixed routine makes handling frozen milk much easier. Many people plan their week so that one bottle is always thawing in the refrigerator while the next is still in the freezer. This way, you do not have to spontaneously check whether donkey milk is ready.
- Fixed thawing days: For example, set aside two days a week to place a new bottle in the refrigerator.
- Powder as a backup: A package of donkey milk powder in the pantry is practical if you run out of frozen milk.
- Plan recipes in advance: If you want to bake or cook with donkey milk, thaw the required amount to suit the recipe.
You can find ideas for the kitchen in the post Delicious recipes with donkey milk for everyday life.
One final tip for organization: Keep a fixed space free in the freezer for the donkey milk. This way, you can see at a glance how many bottles are left and can plan the next delivery in good time. Ingredients and allergens are always listed on the label.
